Superbowl Ad Game Wrap Up
Superbowl XLV was a great game and, for once, the highlight was on the football and not the ridiculous ads that cost a fortune to air during the most coveted of time slots. That didn't stop the Mad Men from trying to get our attention though, and I decided to post a few of the ads that stood out during the game.
First off was Eminem's two commercials. One for Lipton Brisk and another for the Chrysler 200, emphasizing Detroit above the actual car. For someone who has had an enormous amount of commercial success, Eminem has steered clear of actual commercials. Though he is still a long way from appearing in the amount of commercials Dr. Dre has, we applaud Eminem for keeping it real in the spots.
Next up is a Best Buy ad featuring the omnipresent Justin Beiber and The Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne. Beiber, who is promoting a movie, is impossible to escape. He stood in for John Stewart on The Daily Show last week and was the featured musical guest on a painfully unfunny SNL. I suppose he's here to stay for a while, but it still makes me wince when I see him standing opposite of Ozzy Osbourne hocking cellphones for Best Buy. See the commercial below and check out the clip under that, where only a couple of months ago, Ozzy Osbourne asked "Who the fuck is Justin Beiber?"
The best ads during the game came came in the form of movie trailers from Marvel. They debuted the trailers for Captain America: First Avenger and Thor. Maybe I'm just a comic book geek, but both of these movies look stellar and and are definite first day must-sees. Oh, and there was also a trailer for Super 8, a movie written and directed by J. J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg. Not much was revealed except their involvement. Check em out below.

Black Eyed Peas: Is This the Beginning of the End?
I'm going to make this short and sweet. Should you buy the Black Eyed Peas' new album, The Beginning? Let me me put it this way: If you love auto-tune and the dramatic swing towards a blatant electro-pop sound Will.I.Am and The Black Eyed Peas seem to be heading, then by all means purchase the album. Just to give you a taste of what your in for, the first track off the album interpolates (I've Had The) Time of My Life from the movie Dirty Dancing and, in my opinion, heads downhill from there.
Will.I.Am has explained that he used to attend raves while he was in high school and that is why his music has gravitated towards a more technotronic sound but, at this point, it's hard to believe that Will.I.Am ever used to produce for Eazy-E's Ruthless Records. While the majority of the album seems to fall short in an attempt to seemingly reach a broader audience, the one shining spot on the album is track number eight: Don't Stop the Party, which is ironic seeing as it is the only track on the album that doesn't. Buy it if you must, but I recommend you pass over this album in favor of Deadmau5's 4x4=12 if you're looking for a good electronic music fix.

Spotlight: Will.I.Am and the Black Eyed Peas
The Black Eyed Peas
are arguably one of the most popular groups of the last decade and almost everyone can name one of their songs. Even your mom. Not my mom, though. Your mom. Anyway, It's hard to imagine the Will.I.Am today used to be a straight gangster back in the day. No, he didn't get shot multiple times like 50 Cent, but he used to be signed to and produce for Easy E's Ruthless Records. Fast forward to 2010 and Will.I.Am., now a seasoned veteran in the music game, makes the music he REALLY wants to make. Though I don't like how commercial his music has become, I welcome the originality and innovation he brings to the game. He, and the Peas, are at the forefront of the electro-hip-hop movement that is happening right now dispite the commercial singles that border on hip-pop. Check out their performance on ABC's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2010
