30 Minutes of Hard Electronic Music

I understand why people don't listen to the harder varieties of electronic music -- even if you like it, it will get on your nerves.  A 30 minute mix is perfect, though.  Thanks to Frail Limb Purity for the following mix, filled with electro-house, fidget-house, electro-funk, dub-step, and other sorts of hyphenated genres.

Tracks included:
1. Fukkk Off – “Rave Is King (Le Castle Vania remix)”
2. Grum – “Go Back (Le Castle Vania Remix)”
3. Don Diablo & Example – “Hooligans (Noisia Remix)”
4. The Marvelettes – “Mr. Postman (Cragga ReFix)”
5. Jayou – “Western Jam (Jayou’s Gone East Mix)”
6. Skein – “Oblivion”
7. Justice – “Genesis (Slow Version)”
8. O Children – “Dead Disco Dancer (The Golden Filter Remix)”
9. Aphex Twin – “Windowlicker (White Label Dubstep Remix)”
10. I Love You Guys Alot (OUTRO)

Re-Spun Sunday

Here's some classic tracks that were born-again through some creative mashups.  These are all part of the Matchstix.com Stanton Mashup Challenge, and I encourage you to support these DJs and vote for these tracks if you like them.

Frail Limb Purity -
Rage Against the Machine, "Bulls on Parade" v. The Glitch Mob, "Drive it Like you Stole It"
Laying Bulls on Parade on top of Glitch Mob's deep electro-hip-hop gives the classic Rage song a whole new dark feel.

Top Flight -
Missy Elliot, "Work It" v. Elvis, "A Little Less Conversation (JXL Remix)"
This remix works surprisingly well, both lyrically and musically.  Interesting choice of songs.

Bonez McCoy -
Chemical Brothers, "Swoon (Boys Noize Remix)" v. Dr. Dre / Eminem, "Forgot About Dre"
A good mix of trance and hip-hop.  The Eminem break down about half way through the song is a good use of musical energy.

Concert Review - Sander van Doorn

Last night Sander van Doorn tore down the house at San Francisco's Ruby Skye, mixing up floor shaking house and trance beats.  Sander blends dark riffs, minimal house style breakdowns (with bass so hard you can feel it in your lungs), and occasionally some melodic vocal tracks.  He varies from well known songs to rarities, and incorporates a lot of his own material.  One thing is for sure though -- the crowd did not stop moving until his decks stopped spinning.  With Sander's music selection you can take the vodka sans redbull and still have hours of energy.

Highlights from last night:

Steve Angello - Knas
This was my personal highlight of the night.  When the sultry breakdown came the lights turned low, the bass hit hard, and people got down.

Faithless - Not Going Home (Armin van Buuren Remix)
This perfectly tweaked Faithless track has become an instant classic.  The melodic, echoey, climbing synths at the end create a capacitor-like energy just waiting to be released.

The Killers - Spaceman (Sander van Doorn Remix)
With lights shining on the crowd, Sander hit mute and we sang, "The spaceman says 'everybody look down,' its all in your mind."  And then that heavy synth kicked in.  A touching moment, indeed.

And, of course, one of Sander's newest tracks, Daddyrock

Bass Thumpin' Thursdays

This week is brought to you by the letter O.  For organ.  In modern times this King of Instruments is oft overlooked, whether its the giant pipes found in cathedrals or the electric variety.  From Bach to The Bloody Beetroots, organ keys and their infinite decay and sustain provide an unparalleled intensity in any type of music.

Jon Lord, organist for Deep Purple, is by far one of the most talented musicians to have fingered a Hammond.  Check out this live solo:

And for good measure, here’s Deep Purple’s “Hush,” one of the most distinctive organ songs:

As the organ is sometimes forgotten in the shadows, so are its greatest masters.  Everyone has heard of Jim Morrison, but when it comes to musical talent in The Doors, Ray Manzarek leads the troupe.  Here’s “When the Music’s Over”:

RJD2, a DJ with an ear for blues and soul, embeds organ clips in his crate digging style of hip-hop.  Next on the queue, “Seven Light Years:”

You might not have the time to watch this masterpiece in full, but it is well worth the ten minutes to bask in the glory of the Sidney Town Hall pipe organ as it pumps out Bach’s classic "Tocatta and Fugue in Dm".

And as foreshadowed, from Bach to The Bloody Beetroots (“We Are from Venice”):

New Dr. Dre

Here's a couple of brand new tracks by Dr. Dre. The second of which can be found on Raekwon's Only Built for Cuban Linx part II Gold Edition. Check them out.
Oh yeah, that’s in the works. An instrumental album is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I have the ideas for it. I want to call it The Planets. I don’t even know if I should be saying this, but fuck it. [Laughs.] It’s just my interpretation of what each planet sounds like. I’m gonna go off on that. Just all instrumental. I’ve been studying the planets and learning the personalities of each planet. I’ve been doing this for about two years now just in my spare time so to speak. I wanna do it in surround sound. It’ll have to be in surround sound for Saturn to work.

Kanye West - G.O.O.D. Ass Mixtape (mixtape)

Lastly, on New Music Tuesday, I'd like to share a little Kanye West. His forthcoming Dark Twisted Fantasy (formerly titled Good Ass Job) is the follow up to his multi-platinum 808's and Heartbreak. Set to be released on November 16th, Dark Twisted Fantasy will feature the single Power and a recently leaked song See Me Know featuring Beyonce and Charlie Wilson available here or below. For those who can't wait until November for some new Kanye tunes, check out Kanye's G.O.O.D. Ass Mixtape. Is it really that good? You be the judge.

DJ Whiteowl Drop That 132 (mixtape)

Nothing against Young Jeezy, but a mixtape with a title about cocaine doesn't quite satisfy my new music fix, so if you're looking for some of the latest rap and hip-hop singles, you should take a listen to DJ Whiteowl's Drop That 132. For those that don't know, DJ Whiteowl is back with the 132nd installment of the Drop That Mixtape series, a series that brings the heat and sheds some light on some up-and-comers in the game. Give it a listen.

Young Jeezy - 1,000 Grams (mixtape)

It's New Music Tuesday and today I'd like to share a new mixtape from Young Jeezy entitled 1,000 Grams. The title is an obvious reference to a kilogram - and cocaine, though I'm sure Jeezy hasn't touched the stuff in years. Side note: Why do a lot of rappers feel the need to brag about the drugs they've sold? Do they think we believe them and think they're tough? Either way, look out for TM 103, dropping on September 28th.

The Run Around - Exile of Emo

The Run Around is a new punk band from Chicago. The band has (apparently) taken the Midwest by storm performing on huge stages at The Local Music Revolution 2010 at the Congress Theater in Chicago, Punkfest, and were one of the openers for Tom Petty at Summerfest in Milwaukee. Since I live in California, and have never actually seen them live, I cannot verify these claims. I can only bring you their debut video Exile of Emo In the hopes that it will catch on and force legislation to put an end to nut-hugging skinny jeans.

Sam Kinison: Breaking All The Rules

Sam Kinison was and still is one of the funniest comedians ever. Originally he followed in his father's footsteps as a Pentecostal preacher before becoming a comedian and his style, both as a preacher and as a comedian, was punctuated by loud abrasive screaming. He was loud, in-your-face, and hilarious and his booming career was on it's upswing when he was tragically stuck in his 1989 Trans Am by a 17 year old in a pickup truck who had been drinking. I highly suggest you check out some of his stand-up CDs, DVDs and television show appearances. Here's one notable stint on Saturday Night Live where he plays a teacher conducting a Parent/Teacher interview as well as the full Breaking All The Rules 1987 stand-up special.

Bass Thumpin' Thursdays

Hey Hey Kids. Welcome to another edition of Bass Thumpin' Thursdays. I'm Veroncia Corningstone, Tits McGee is on Vacation. Today, Let's kick things off with a song by Marcel Woods titled Everything accompanied by an original video by Sensation White. Videos like this are the reason we created Bass Thumpin' Thursdays, so we can show exhibit them to the world.

Marcel Woods - Everything

Next up is the music video for Eminem's Love the Way You Lie featuring Rihanna. Shit. This video was posted literally one week ago on YouTube and has garnered over 30 million views. 30 million WTF?! Anyway, this may have something to do with Eminem being one of the biggest and best selling recording artists of the last decade or maybe the collaboration with Rihanna, whom people seem to be infatuated with. My bet is the decision to feature Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan as an abusive couple probably nabbed a few million views from horny teenagers googling Megan Fox in hopes of finding some topless pics.

Eminem - Love The Way You Lie ft. Rihanna

Thirdly, is Instamatic with a Kleptones Mad Groove (Instamatic video mashup). The 6th video from The Videotones is about television - an intentional theme running through nearing all the videos but here Instamatic takes The Kleptones 'Mad Groove' and merrily skips through 24 films, TV shows and music videos channel surfing as he goes, causing upset and destruction in his wake. Remember: don't watch the blipverts, or your eyes will go square. See if you can spot all the references.

Sources used include: Poltergeist, Requiem for a Dream, Steal This Film II, Stay Tuned, Network, Pleasantville, Truman Show, Filth and the Fury, Medium Cool, Max Headroom, Videodrome, They Live, Evidence by Godfrey Reggio, Daft Punk - Robot Rock, YMO - Live, Great Rock n' Roll Swindle, Zabriskie Point, Ringu, Times Square, Last Emperor, Koyaaniqatsi, Kraftwerk - Tour de France, Double 99 - Rip Groove video...

The Kleptones - Mad Groove (Instamatic video mashup)

Last up is the music video for Ice Cube's new single, I Rep That West. Ice Cube has been in the rap game for over two fucking decades and though kids today may know him better for his acting roles than his lyrical talent they need to check themselves. Ice has brought us classic after classic so without further dick-riding, I bring you the new video for the new single, I Rep That West. Stay classy San Diego.

Mike Posner Live on Jimmy Fallon

Mike's Been shopping Cooler Than Me on all the talk shows lately. Here's a Live performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. He also performed the hit on Live with Regis and Kelly on August 3rd, on the Wendy Williams Show Aug. 5, 2010 and on Jay Leno Aug 9. But who watches those shows?

Mike Posner Dropping Today

Make sure to pick up Mike Posner's debut 31 Minutes to Take Off which is dropping today. Mike Posner is on the rise and if you haven't already, check out his mixtapes here. You won't want to miss this kid. He's gonna be huge.

And while we're on the subject, why can't we all be so lucky to have a drug dealing girl like this? In my experience drug dealers are usually acne-ridden, shaggy college students, not top-quality pieces of ass.

Wale - More About Nothing (mixtape)

Wale's follow-up to his 2008 mixtape, Mixtape About Nothing, More About Nothing. Download it and check it out.

The Game - Brake Lights (mixtape)

DJ Skee is back on his grind releasing a brand-new mixtape with The Game called Brake Lights. Skee was interviewed by MTV's Mixtape Daily to weigh in on what kind of impact this album will make.
"Reason we named it Brake Lights is because it's something you don't see if you're following us often — we don't stop," Skee said from his SkeeTV headquarters. "We just had to talk about it. Plus we just did The R.E.D. Album with Game. The biggest difference between this and The Red Room [mixtape] is, I think, the quality of records. This time around, it's a lot higher. We got some crazy features, more original stuff. It's not really any freestyles over other people's beats. It's all original music. So it's really like a real album. We're going back to those classic Game/ DJ Skee street-album days. It's gonna be pretty crazy."
So check it out. I know I will.

Bass Thumpin' Thursdays

Hey there digital readers. Today's edition of Bass Thumpin' Thursday's is brought to you by The Club. The Club: proving a sweaty environment where you can do some drugs, dance with strangers, and have a steamy make out session with a random female near a bathroom. The Club: where you pay double the price for half the liquor.
With that, I'd like to bring you the first music video and I've got to say this is one of the few club tracks I've heard where the video doesn't take place in a club. In the video, the Chicago-bred Walter Meego exhibit a power that any straight man would kill to have - The ability to lift women's skirts simply by walking past them. Check it out.
Walter Meego - Girls

The next video is by German Pakistani electronic music composer and producer DJ Shah aka Sunlounger. Though the video is pretty ambiguous as to what time of year it is, it feels like a fun Summer song about a lost love. The song is pretty remarkable for being one of the rare trance/ electronica songs that utilizes male vocals as opposed to female.
DJ Shah feat. Inger Hansen - Don't Wake Me Up

Thirdly, is by an artist that has been featured before on BTT, Inna. Love is actually the second track and the second single from her break-out studio album Hot and this Romanian beauty shows no signs of slowing down. She recently released released the fifth video single off the same album, 10 Minutes but I found Love to be a more exciting track and engaging visual display.
Inna - Love

Although David Guetta's One Love was released almost a year ago, his tracks are still burning up the airwaves and Cat 5 cables. What more can i say about this cross-over artist that hasn't been said before? David Guetta has transitioned from the Euro-club dance scene, across the pond State-side, and has commanded crowds of people to dance with his infectious rhythms. Though not as popular as the song made for bar mitzvahs, Memories has the potential to last for a long time.
David Guetta feat. Kid Cudi - Memories

Last but not least is Space Cowboy with Falling Down. You may recognize Space Cowboy, aka Nick Dresti, as the guy in all the Lady Gaga music videos, but a little known fact is that he helped produce a few songs on Lady Gaga's critically acclaimed The Fame (and The Fame Monster) and co-wrote MSTRKFRT's Heartbreaker featuring John Legend.

Lloyd Banks - 80's Baby (mixtape)

Since my birthday is today and I am an 80's baby, I thought I'd bring you a mixtape from the Punchline King, Lloyd Banks entitled 80's Baby. Lloyd has always been hot on the mixtape circuit and this one is no exception. Though Banks gained notoriety as a member of 50 Cent's G-Unit, He broke out on his own with 2004's number one album The Hunger for More and, even though he kept the rhythm going on mixtapes, his second studio album Rotten Apple failed to make an impression and ultimately lead to his dismissal from Interscope Records. Now, most artists would be devastated at receiving a pink slip, but Banks jumped back on the train he rode in on with a barrage of new material in mixtape format. Lloyd even went so far as to release his new song, Beamer, Benz, or Bentley with no major label promotion, a move that helped him reach #49 on the Billboard Hot 100. Interscope is now regretting their decision to drop Banks and is in talks to re-sign him based on the success of the single. Anyway, peep the 80's Baby mixtape and remember to look out for The Hunger for More 2.

Jay-Z - Creative Control (mixtape)

Before the mighty Neil Armstrong, DJ Green Lantern infamously toured with Jigga Man as his #1 on the 1's and 2's. In fact, around the time of his 2006 album Kingdom Come Green & Jay had intended to drop 'Presidential Invasion', a promotional mixtape created while the two were touring Africa and promoting Jay's "The Diary of Jay-Z: Water for Life" conquest to aid African countries in the pursuit of clean water. That mixtape never materialized, and the hip-hop world was left waiting for that elusive Hova v. Evil Genius collaboration. Four years later, with the summer of 2010 as the backdrop, and Jay-Z's Roc Nation label and DJ Green Lantern's Team Invasion as the suppliers, S. Carter takes it to the next level with a new kind of Creative Control. Green and Jay do the damn thing and drop this official new mixtape masterpiece, complete with trademark GL production, remixes, live appearances and never-before-heard music.

Dot Matrix Revolution vs. Bow Before the Cloud

Following an early morning status check of their vintage electronic equipment, two computer engineers "throw down" in an awkward dance-off that inaccurately echoes the development of information technology and the internet from 1951 up to the present day. The film features a catchy jingle by pop impresario Jim Guthrie.

Production notes: This film was produced by Superbrothers in 2006 before the establishment of Superbrothers Inc., but it was not until after incorporation that the film was eventually released. Critical reception of the film was positive, although most felt that the aim of the film was less lofty than its acclaimed predecessor The Children of the Clone (posted underneath), and that its creators had gone soft, already drifting from their revolutionary roots. Regardless the video is pretty cool and should be checked out by anyone who is a fan of 8-bit art.

Also, Check out the first pixel film by the Superbrothers - Children of the Clone, An award-winning portrait of corporate culture run amok in which a single executive recruits an army of clones to attack, behead and 'incorporate' an old money industrialist into their consumptive system. The film features an aggressive, stellar musical composition by Jim Guthrie.
