Bass Thumpin' Thursdays

I know it's been a while since the last edition of "Bass Thumpin' Thursdays" and for that, apologies are in order. Running the blog takes a considerable amount of time and effort the former of which I seem to have less of each day. In that consideration, I may decide to make BTT a bi-weekly staple instead of devoting a post each week to the cause. Regardless, some feedback would be much appreciated as well as some suggestions for artists and songs to be featured. On that note, I bring to you four music videos that made the cut this week. The reoccurring theme is hot chicks featured in electronic music videos. In retrospect, a Sash! video would have been appropriate here, but instead we'll kick things off with the Steve Angello and Laidback Luke remix of Robin S.'s "Show Me Love".

"Show Me Love" originally failed to make an impact when it was released in 1990, but after a re-release in 1993, became a #1 dance song and the debut single for Robin S.'s album of the same name. Heavily regarded as a classic house track, "Show Me Love" has been remixed and sampled extensively (In fact, The Pussycat Dolls sampled the original song on their 2005 smash "Don't Cha"). The version I bring to you is the most recent bass-thumping version: a remix by Swedish House Mafia's Steve Angello and, Dutch DJ, Laidback Luke. Enjoy.

Though the next video features a hot chick at around the 2:00 mark, be warned that there is a horrible guy to girl ratio for a trance video (2:1). Maybe that's the reason Rockstar decided to use Eric Prydz' "Pajanoo" on the soundtrack and feature the song in the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony. Either way, the track is more contagious than the flu and repeated listens will drill the melody in your head like and offshore oil rig. Hopefully the end results will differ from the BP oil fiasco.

Eric Prydz - Pjanoo

Thirdly, I would like to present a video by a trio of Belgian dance musicians named Lasgo. Lasgo is comprised of Peter Luts and Jeff Martens as the producers and singer Jelle Van Dael who provides vocals and eye-candy. As an aspiring producer myself, I realize that, in order to succeed, I should keep a hot blond in tow. However, if I could attract hot blonds, I probably wouldn't get much work done. Giggity.

Lasgo - Out of My Mind

Lastly, I would like to present a video by Elena Alexandra Apostoleanu a.k.a. Inna. Inna is a dance singer from Mangalia, Romania and her debut album "Hot" reached #1 on the European dance charts partly due to the #1 smash of the same name. Inna's infectiousness has yet to reach state side but I predict that this ravishing Romanian will soon show the world just how "Hot" she is.

The Roots - How I Got Over

You may know the roots as the house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, but long before they set up stage in 30 Rock (30 Rockefeller Center in New York City) The Roots have held it down as one of the best live acts of the past 20 years. Black Thought's impeccable rhyming accompanied by ?uestlove's funky drumming has garnered them a place in not just hip-hop history, but music history as a whole. My first exposure to them was with the single "Seed 2.0" from their awesome 2002 album Phrenology, and with that one hit, I was addicted for life. Check out their new video "How I Got Over" from the upcoming album of the same name below, "The Seed 2.0", and the original song that inspired it, Cody ChesnuTT's "Seed". Be warned: The Roots are a gateway drug that may lead to more good music.

Katy Perry: One Hot Pin-Up

Katy Perry was just named #1 on Maxim's Hot 100 list... and with good reason. Katy has caught my eye ever since her since her 2008 hit "I Kissed a Girl" burned up the airwaves. Though I'm not particular fan of her music, especially that song with 3OH!3, I could watch her videos all day long. It took a while and, possibly, an endorsement for proactiv for Katy to get finally get noticed by the guys over at Maxim, and I'm extremely happy for her. To celebrate, I bring to you some of Katy Perry's hottest looks. Enjoy.

It's Always Funny in Philadelphia

Danny DeVito is one of the funniest actors alive and his work on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is top-notch. I always wondered how four relatively unknowns got an A-list like Danny to appear in their show. Check out the first clip to see one of the many provisions in his contract, and the second clip to Starring Rob McElhenney & Kaitlin Olson instructing women on how to conduct a breast exam... on a snow-woman.

Obama's Got Jokes

A couple of weeks ago, President Obama traded jokes with Jay Leno at the 2010 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in Washington, D.C. Check it out, Obama's got some jokes and most of them are better than Leno's (but then again, whose aren't?) He was in top form and a joking CoCo supporter as evident by a couple of one-liners.
I'm also glad that I'm speaking first. because we've all seen what happens when someone takes the timeslot after Leno's

New Stat Quo and Eminem

No sooner had I posted the previous entry, did I find a couple of new joints featuring Stat Quo and Eminem. The first, "Atlanta on Fire", is going to be featured on Stat Quo's upcoming album Statlanta and the second, "Classic Shit", seems to have been recorded when Stat was still Signed to Shady/ Aftermath, judging by Eminem's flow and Stat Quo's references. Check them out and let me know your opinion in the comments section.

Stat Quo and the Long Road to Statlanta

Hey there audiophiles. I took a week off for a vacation and I am back and well rested so let's jump right into it. Though Dr. Dre promised us a new single from Detox, "Under Pressure", would be dropping soon, nothing has yet to materialize aside from some instrumental clips and a whole lot of speculation. Now, I tried not to get my hopes up, because the Doc is notorious for building up hype and then scrapping projects, and it seems we will (still) have to wait and see if Detox ever come to light. This isn't the first time Dr. Dre has let me, and other hip-hop fans down with rumors of something great. I've already explored what happened with Rakim in another article, but another artist who's had his buzz fade quicker than a dying bee is Stat Quo.

Stat Quo was signed to a joint deal with Shady/ Aftermath Entertainment in 2003 and garnered a lot of hype, appearing as a guest artist to other musicians on the Shady/ Aftermath roster and releasing a few free mixtapes. Unhappy with the release status of his debut album, Statlanta, which had been repeatedly pushed back, Stat decided to leave Shady/ Aftermath in 2008 and ended up signing with Sha Money XL's newly founded record label, Dream Big Ventures in late 2009. Stat is set to finally release Statlanta to the masses on June 22, 2010 and the first single is called "Success (Back to U)". The able is still supposed to feature some production by Dr. Dre and appearances by Eminem, The Game, and Lauryn Hill Be sure to check out the videos below to hear his singles and why he left Shady/ Aftermath.

Kanye West Does Cleveland

Kanye West made an appearance on last Sunday's The Cleveland Show as Kenny West, Cleveland Jr.'s rival for the episode. Check out this freestyle battle between Kanye, I mean Kenny, and Cleveland Jr. It's fresh.
